But before you open it…

Don’t start half-ass reading through and answering in your head while you’ve got chaos in your background and a browser opened to Instagram. Give it the space and time it (and you) deserve. It only works if you give it space.

Doing a Clarity Break the right way.

  1. Schedule it in. Right now.
Block 60-90 minutes on your calendar. Weekly is ideal. Quarterly, at minimum. Or monthly, to meet in the middle. Just get something on the books and set it as recurring at a regular interval.

  2. Remove all other input.
Put your phone away entirely so that you can’t see or hear any notifications. Close your computer and/or shut down all notifications if you’re using it to type out your responses. The expectation is that you remove anything that will steal your attention from the task at hand (i.e., Clarity Break).

  3. Print the questions.
Yes, for real. Or copy them onto paper and take that with you. And yes, the physical shift matters.

  4. Write slowly.
Yo, this isn’t a race. You don’t win if you get through the questions faster. You win by taking the time to think. Slowing down is the game here, not hurrying through the break so that you can rush back into task-master mode. Take your time.

  5. Stay high-level.
If you realize that you’re shifting into nitty-gritty, detail-specific responses, pause. Zoom back out. Make note of what happened and try again. We’re trying to see the forest for the trees here, not learn about how ants cross bark on tree #13827.

One important reminder.

This might feel hella weird to do at first. That’s normal. In essence, you’re attempting to detox from constant input, which is a necessity for #OwnerLife because clarity doesn’t show up when you push harder. It shows up when you allow yourself time to think.
